On December 29, the Xinhua News Agency said that this is the first Chinese hacking organization to be discovered utilizing ChatGPT to initiate a malware assault. After learning about an incident involving a ransomware-infected Hangzhou firm that was being blackmailed for 20,000 USDT in order to restore access, the nation of a billion people mobilized.

Two of the four persons that the police had detained at the end of November were hiding in Beijing. The gang acknowledged that they had created malware and optimized it with ChatGPT. They then went ahead and sent ransom notes, implanted code, and scanned for security flaws.

It is not clear if the usage of ChatGPT would be viewed as an aggravating factor when the hackers are prosecuted on charges of cybercrime. The South China Morning Post reports that OpenAI’s goods are now in a legal limbo since the Chinese government has recently been attempting to control AI models created by foreign corporations.
